The Wrecker

Rediscovered a poem I wrote years ago. Oh, heartbreak, how inspirational. It was for a poetry workshop I took in college and we were to write an ode. Seeing as I’m not motivated to write about happiness, I wrote a non-ode and titled it Non-Ode to the Wrecker.

To the trollop who gallops
in and out of fenced hearts
bones that betrayed
my bitter impositionYou move like rooks to pawns
check-checkered this chest
with heeled hooves
now move me

Took from me eyes that see
from beneath woolen irises
prickling these pupils

you, night mare
have stars for lies

Your dance, misleading me to water
Inebriant, I am full
